چکیده

This paper reports on the design of a subthreshold-CMOS chaotic oscillator based on Chua's circuit. The circuit is autonomous and generates chaotic signals from three state variables in a manner analogous to a Chua circuit. Previous CMOS IC versions of the Chua circuit operate above threshold and make use of capacitors over 200 times larger than the subthreshold design. Also, this design is based on fundamentally nonlinear subthreshold building blocks permitting flexible adjustment of bifurcation parameters for investigation of complex phenomena not present in a piecewise linear model. Finally, this design incorporates all necessary elements on chip, eliminating the need for an external resistor. The combination of reduced size and flexible nonlinearity make this design suitable for a single-chip VLSI synthesis of complex circuits making use of chaotic signals, including coupled maps generating spatio-temporal chaos and systems exploiting chaos synchronization.

A Continuous-Time Analog Circuit for Computing Time Delays Between Signals - Circuits and Systems, 1996., ISCAS '96, 'Connecting the World'., 1996 IEEE International Symposium

a1 AbstractWe describe an analog VLSI circuit that computes the time delay between an arbitrary input signal and its delayed version. Versions of this circuit will be used as the basic computational elements for human auditory localization models in both the horizontal and vertical directions. Since the circuit uses subthreshold CMOS circuitry, chip measurements show that delays ranging over fi...

A Fundamental Basis for Power-Reduction in VLSI Circuits - Circuits and Systems, 1996., ISCAS '96, 'Connecting the World'., 1996 IEEE International Symposium

Presented in this paper is a fundamental mathematical basis for power-reduction in VLSI systems. This basis is employed to 1.) derive lower bounds on the power dissipation in digital systems and 2.) unify existing power-reduction techniques under a common framework. The proposed basis is derived from information-theoretic arguments. In particular, a digital signal processing algorithm is viewed...

THE MATCHING OF SMALL CAPACITORS FOR ANALOG VLSI - Circuits and Systems, 1996., ISCAS '96, 'Connecting the World'., 1996 IEEE International Symposium

The capacitor has become the dominant passive component for analog circuits designed in standard CMOS processes. Thus, capacitor matching is a primary factor in determining the precision of many analog circuit techniques. In this paper, we present experimental measurements of the mismatch between square capacitors ranging in size from 6 pm x 6 pm to 20 pm x 20 pm fabricated in a standard 2 pm d...

PITCH DETERMINATION AND SPEECH SEGMENTATION USING THE DISCRETE WAVELET TRANSFORM - Circuits and Systems, 1996., ISCAS '96, 'Connecting the World'., 1996 IEEE International Symposium

Pitch determination and speech segmentation are two important parts of speech recognition and speech processing in general. This paper proposes a time-based event detection method for finding the pitch period of a speech signal. Based on the discrete wavelet transform, it detects voiced speech, which is local in frequency, and determines the pitch period. This method is computationally inexpens...

COMPUTING THE GENERIC INDEX OF THE CIRCUIT EQUATIONS OF LINEAR ACTIVE NETWORKS - Circuits and Systems, 1996., ISCAS '96, 'Connecting the World'., 1996 IEEE International Symposium

In many problems, such as the analysis of electrical circuits, one has to deal with Differential-Algebraic Equations (DAE’s). Knowing their generic index is of interest for practical and numerical as well as for theoretical reasons. In this paper we give an algorithm that determines the generic index of the Circuit Equations of linear active electrical networks in polynomial time from tlie netw...
